Mom, You’re the REAL Gift!

A Mother’s Gift

The minute my eyes opened you were there. Waiting, hoping, ready to greet me with unconditional love. And from that moment, I became your baby, forever.

You held me close, and I studied your scent. We locked eyes, and I examined every inch of you. You held my hand and our bond was sealed.

Each day of my infancy, I only had eyes for you. I was an extension of you, and you of me. I wanted nothing more than to be held by you and to have you near.  When I smiled, you smiled; a never-ending loop of joy.

You fed me, you bathed me, you picked me up when I cried. When snot was pouring out of my face, and no one else wanted to be near me, you snuggled me even closer to let me know you would always be there for me.

You encouraged my first step and every step thereafter. Always my #1 cheerleader from the sidelines. You never had to keep score because as a mom, you always put your children first, even above yourself.

With each step, I got further from my days nestled close to you. Watching me grow must have been difficult, but you bravely looked to the future with ambitions for what I could become.

From you, I learned love in all its forms.

Growing up, there is so much a child doesn’t see about what it means to be a parent. A mother’s strength comes in her ability to adapt, adjust, and ride out each moment. There will be days of absolute bliss and days you wish you could simply fast-forward. But as a mom, you are there for every one and for everyone.

Today when I picture you, I see a contoured reflection of myself.  We no longer share the same body or space, but I will always hold a part of you within me.  Through ups and downs and eternity we are forever bonded because you are my Mommy.

And because of you, I am More Of Me.

Lives given and lives gifted.
